How to prep your skin for a flawless tan
- Shave & Exfoliate:
The night before your appointment, shave any unwanted hair and exfoliate thoroughly from head to toe using an exfoliating mitt. Proper exfoliation is key for a smooth, even tan — especially if you have leftover self-tanner or spray tan. Skipping this step can lead to patchy, uneven results. - Avoid Products:
On the day of your appointment, skip lotions, deodorant, oils, and fragrances. These products can create a barrier on the skin, leading to streaks, blotchiness, or even greenish tones in areas like the underarms. - Wash Your Hair in Advance:
Plan to wash your hair before your appointment, or time your hair-washing schedule accordingly. Shampoo and conditioner residue can affect your tan if you wash your hair during your first rinse. - Plan Your Day:
While we use lightweight solutions and setting powder to help you go about your day, it’s best to wear loose, dark clothing, avoid water exposure (like cooking, washing dishes, or bathing kids), and skip intense workouts to prevent uneven results.
What do I wear?
You can wear whatever makes you most comfortable during your spray tan — bikini, bra, thong, or nothing at all. Just remember, tan lines will reflect what you wear and cannot be changed after your session.
For male clients, we do require underwear or some form of coverage.
After your tan, we recommend wearing loose, dark clothing. Avoid bras, leggings, or tight, closed-toe shoes. If you’re keeping the tan on overnight, wear long sleeves and pants to bed. This helps prevent transfer to your palms, avoids skin-to-skin contact during processing, and protects your bedding
What do I do after I’m sprayed?
We offer two different rinse time options for your spray tan. Both will give you the same beautiful result, and we’re always happy to help you choose the best option for your needs.
8–12 Hour Commitment
Rinse with water only after the tan has been on your skin for at least 8–12 hours, but no longer than 24 hours.
Express Rinse
Leave the solution on for 2–5 hours before rinsing. The depth and intensity of your tan will depend on how long the solution stays on, so it’s important to follow our recommendations. Never leave an express tan on for more than 5 hours. Keep in mind, timing is key — if you have a busy day or can’t shower within a few hours of your appointment, this may not be the best option for you. Leaving an express tan on too long can lead to overdevelopment and a result you might not love.
Rinse times are as follows:
Light - 2 hours
Medium - 3 hours
Dark - 4 hours
Dark + - 5 hours
All spray tans take 12–24 hours to fully develop, so after your initial rinse, it may feel like you’ve lost some color but don’t worry! Your tan will continue to deepen over the next several hours.
How long does it last?
With proper care, your spray tan will last about 7–10 days. To extend the life of your tan, stay hydrated both inside and out. Drink plenty of water and keep your skin moisturized. Avoid exfoliating, shaving, or anything that might dry out your skin. We also carry a line of aftercare products specially formulated to work with your spray tan and keep it looking its best.
